Briefly describe your graduate project: The focus of my studies has been the early life history of eulachon (Thaleichthys
pacificus) in Berners Bay (RR/04-02). I will attempt to validate the daily increment formation on eulachon otoliths and determine residency time of larval eulachon within the estuary.
Why did you choose UAF? My professor was interested in this project, and helped me develop the proposal that is funding my research. The Juneau Center of the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is close to eulachon spawning areas.
Favorite pastimes and hobbies: Fishing, tinkering on boats, bicycling.
Most interesting educational experience so far: Sampling all summer in Berners Bay and finding where the jellyfish are.
Future plans: Teaching, assisting with researching the Chilkat
eulachon run, and sticking close to rivers.
