International sport fishing: The case of the German angler in Alaska Authors: L.M. Milner M. Herrmann, K. Giraud, M. Skogen Baker, and R.F. Hiser Online order form for free pubs (new window) |
This research is the first comprehensive survey of a sportfishing industry niche market—German sportfishing anglers in Alaska. The study employs a previously known approach to travel and tourism patterns, which uses the distinctions "occasional anglers," "generalists," and "specialists." The authors show that these groupings can be useful in developing a tourism marketing strategy to attract the international angling tourist. In the study, 97% of respondents said they would like to visit Alaska again, and within the "specialists" group nearly 29% had already been to Alaska five times or more. Tourism Analysis 8:89-94.
