The exciting world at the edge of the sea is the focus of this richly illustrated curriculum. It tells how to plan trips to the beach, and includes studies of rocky shores, sandy beaches, cobble beaches, mud flats, and estuaries. Natural history information is included on beach animals, plants, and habitats, for the teacher without a biology background. Teachers, park naturalists, scout leaders, and interpreters in the Pacific Northwest, and all along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, will enjoy using the author's pre-tested ideas. The lessons and activities, about 75 in all, can be completed in a six-week period. Eighty illustrated study cards are also included.

Author Gloria Snively is on the faculty of the Department of Education, Social and Natural Sciences at the University of Victoria, British Columbia. The curriculum is published by Oregon Sea Grant and Washington Sea Grant.

We help Alaska's students meet state content standards! The content standards (in PDF format) addressed by each lesson and activity are clearly identified. When you teach from these curriculum guides, you know right away which standards you are meeting.
